Congratulations!

You just had your ears pierced at Oasis Medical Spa & Wellness!

In the office, we thoroughly cleansed your ear before we pierced them. We used specially designed earrings made of medical plastic or medical grade titanium to facilitate healing. The piercing posts are a little longer than usual to facilitate air can circulation. When air can circulate around a new piercing, it will heal better. That’s why the earring backs on your piercing earrings are fixed at the tip of the post. The piercing post is also a little wider than typical earrings so that you can easily change to regular earrings after the healing period.

We reviewed with you how best to care for your piercing and here we will provide you with all of our recommendations in detail.

01.

Always Wash Your Hands

Before touching your earrings, always wash your hands. This will help avoid transferring bacteria to the piercing area as it heals. If this is a second or third piercing, remember to wash your hands anytime you change out any of your original earrings.

02.

Don't Twist

Long gone are the days that people were told to twist their earrings daily. Now, we know better and want to optimize your healing so we instruct you to not twist or rotate your earrings at all. Let them heal without being manipulated.

03.

Keep Dry

Always keep the area dry. Prolonged exposure to moisture can impair the skin's healing process. For this reason, do not sleep with damp hair, towels or pillowcases. After showers, dry the area with cool air from a hair dryer or use a single-ply tissue to wick away moisture from under the front and back sides of the earring. Avoid swimming in pools for at least 1 week and avoid swimming in lakes, ponds or the ocean for at least 4 weeks.

04.

Cleaning

Only if visible crusting (accumulation of dead skin cells) appears, gently clean the area using the provided cleansing swabs. These cleansing swabs contain sterile saline, which is gentle on the skin. You can purchase more wipes here or use a sterile saline spray like this. Do not use rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide which will damage the newly pierced skin. You can use hypocholorous acid spray to help disinfect and clean your piercing if you choose to. We recommend this spray.

05.

Allow Healing Time

Piercings on the fleshy part of the lobe require a minimum of 8 weeks for adequate healing. After 8 weeks, the piercing earrings may be changed to your choice of hypoallergenic earrings. The piercing earrings do not need to be changed at 8 weeks if you choose not to.

Piercings on the higher part of the ear, in the cartilage area, will take longer to heal. The piercing earring should be able to be removed and replaced after 12 weeks if healing has occurred. Avoid putting pressure on ear piercings in this area while sleeping or using headphones.

06.

Keep Earrings In Place

It is recommended that you keep an earring in place 24/7 for at least a year to prevent the piercing hole from closing.

We cannot predict when or if a hole will close on it's own so always wear an earring.

Do not wear heavy earrings as these can stretch the lobe over time.

07.

Clean Everything

Anything that goes in or around your ears should be cleaned prior to using. Don't forget about objects like cell phones, airpods or ear buds, headphones, and glasses or sunglasses.
